KS2 MOOT – Yrs 5 & 6

Aims:

  • To enable students to experience success and to recognise their own and others’ achievements.
  • To motivate students to develop and sustain positive new interests.
  • To promote, through the above, attendance and engagement in mainstream education.
  • For Year 6 students – to promote a successful transition to secondary school.

Participants:

Year 5 and 6 students who are at risk of exclusion or disengaging from education.  There will be 6 places on the programme every Thursday during the term.

Students will be invited to attend an initial meeting with their parent/carer and a school representative

The programme will run every Thursday from 9.30am – 2.30pm for 8 weeks

The venue will be Albany Park Canoe and Sailing Centre, Albany Mews, Kingston upon Thames KT2 5SL. This is easily accessible on the 65 bus route from both Kingston and Richmond.

Content:

The programme will include practical projects based around catering, PSHE, boxing and outdoor activities, as well as focussed work on target-setting and changing behaviour.

Staffing:

The programme will be planned and delivered by Malden Oaks staff, working collaboratively with Albany Park staff for the outdoor activity elements.

Cost:

The schools’ contribution to the programme cost will be £110 per day. This includes all materials and resources as well as lunch. This is an excellent use of PPG with proven impact on progress.

Post-Programme mentoring – NEW for 2019!

Following successful completion of the programme, MOOT staff will visit students in their primary schools (or secondary schools for those moving into year 7) to support them to embed the learning from the programme.
